Clean coal technology is those technologies in development that are designed to reduce the impact to the environment produced by coal energy generation. The message reinforced by these mechanisms is that coal can be a fuel source low in, or free of, emissions of carbon dioxides and other pollutants. Carbon capture and coal washing are just two of the many clean coal technologies.
Carbon capture and storage captures the carbon dioxide from sources such as fossil fuel power plants and stores it away from the atmosphere, deep underground. This term also refers to the process of scrubbing carbon dioxide from ambient air during geoengineering. There are various methods of capturing this carbon dioxide and transporting it to a storage site.
Coal washing involves grinding coal into small pieces and using a method called gravity separation to wash out the soluble sulfur compounds using solvents or water. The coal is fed into a barrel containing a fluid that has a density that causes the coal to float. The unwanted impurities sink and are removed from the mix. The coal is then crushed and prepared for the burning process.
Clean Coal Technologies, Inc. is a company engaged in licensing its technology to third parties in exchange for a licensing fee and a royalty fee determined by plant production. This company is currently working with several entities to initially deploy its technology. The technology can be placed at the mouth of a mine or located within existing or new power plants that burn coal. It can also be used to upgrade the quality of coal to develop a source fuel for use in liquefaction applications.
Clean Coal Technologies, Inc. reports that its technology is better than coal scrubbing and costs 60 to 70 percent less than that method. It removes contaminants and pollutants that are not addressed in the scrubbing process. This public company is a penny stock that trades under the ticker CCTC.
